Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium is a medicinal drug, which is a semisynthetic heparin. It may act as a buffer to control cell permeability by protecting irritating solutes from reaching cells coated with it. It also adheres to the urinary bladder wall, preventing irritants from entering bladder cells and the development or progression of interstitial cystitis as a complication of some chemotherapies. This active factor also exhibits anticoagulant and fibrinolytic properties. It is available in capsule form for oral consumption.
